Movers Not Shakers

I have used Movers, not Shakers for moves over a period of 10 years. Each move, big or small has been executed with friendlness and professionalism. Super quick and efficient!

These guys are the best. I have used them many times, at least 4!, and I can compare them to at least 4 other moving companies in NYC. I keep going back because every team has always been professional, know what they are doing, are careful, efficient, and quick. They are friendly and make the whole process straightforward and simple, and relieve so much of the stress. PLUS I LOVE the reusable boxes. That is so so important. I hope not to move again for a long time, but if I do, I will go to these guys.

We've used Movers Not Shakers 4 times between 2006-2022 and every experience has exceeded our expectations. In all four instances they've been on time, efficient, careful, and very accommodating. They take a lot of the stress out of the moving process and I can't recommend them more highly.

These guys were fantastic! They moved our studio/1-bed apartment down 3 and up 4 flights of stairs in just over 2hrs, incredible. The plastic tubs provided were great, they made packing easy and the job more efficient. Very professional team, good price, no fuss & on time, very highly recommend. Thanks guys!

Movers Not Shakers were absolutely top notch from start to finish. Clinton provided a clear quote and was spot on in his estimates on # of boxes, vans etc. His communication was brilliant before our move - always quick to provide any answers and remove uncertainty from the process. Also we really appreciated the flexibility whilst we pinned down our completion date!

The team on the day were faultless - they were great fun and made moving day itself feel easy. They took great care of our belongings and provided helpful advice on some of the bulkier/difficult items. We've already recommended Clinton and team to several of our friends! Thanks again!

I had a great experience with Movers not Shakers this past weekend! The entire experience was fantastic from start to finish. I had to leave NYC quickly in March of 2020, right as COVID was beginning to surge. The team at MNS were flexible, professional and extremely careful with my stuff. I stored my stuff with them for two years before they helped me get it loaded up to move to New Mexico. Between their support on moving and storage, they've always been responsive and transparent.

I would recommend them very highly and think their rates are completely reasonable. Whenever I get back to NYC, I will be using their services again. Thank you to Greg and the whole team at Movers, Not Shakers!

I highly don't recommend using this company as a moving service. They barely give you a consultation and then when they arrive they give you another consultation where they jack up the price 70%. And only send three people to do a job that takes six people where then the job takes double amount of time to complete. There is absolutely no professionalism with this company as well while you're moving prior they're happy nice and great.

However be aware that once you're in the moving process they become ruthless and blackmailers. Obviously they're aware that you need to move so they throw any price at you that they like with no real understanding of where the price came is coming from as well as scream at you. Even the movers were so frustrated with the way the job was setup They personally asked me to write this review.

Clearly they're forcing their people to overwork jobs and as a result The customer suffers as well as the staff. It's quiet sad actually. The movers did the best they could understaffed.

Awesome service! From delivery of the plastic bins to moving my 2 BR in the pouring rain - nothing was broken, nothing was missing, nothing was even wet. Crew was incredible, nice and made one of the most discombobulating experiences (moving) into a relatively simple process. Would highly recommend!

Critical: Professionalism Ultimately, they got the job done. But when I queried the price I was paying and asked to see a breakdown of charges, I was met with an argumentative and confrontational tone.

These guys are the best! They made short work out of moving us from two separate flats into our new home. Friendly, professional and no-stress organising the details for the day. Would absolutely call them again.

Albie, Diago and Jake were fantastic for my recent move. I used Movers not Shakers years ago and they really take the stress out of moving. Furniture was expertly wrapped and the move was very smooth and well organised. Thank you for the excellent service and care you took.

Wow these guys were miraculous. Didnt ask questions just got stuff done. Got all my stuff up two narrow flights of stairs

One month update: we've discovered more and more things damaged or missing. Company has simply stopped replying to emails or returning calls. Good luck if you choose them.

I had excellent experiences with Movers Not Shakers a couple times in the past, but the most recent crew left room for improvement. Items were broken and scratched. Previous crews wrapped furniture carefully. Literally all my chair and table legs are now dinged and scratched and another item broken. I take back my previous 5 star recommendation.

I moved twice over the course of a year and first called Movers not Shakers in June 2020. I was very satisfied with their services and decided to call them again recently for another move. In both instances, everything went well and the movers were professional and pleasant to work with. I would definitely recommend them :

This is our third move with them in 12 years, and they were amazing. again. Came just after 9am, had us out of our 3-bedroom apartment within two hours, and into our new apartment within another 1.5-2 hours. I couldn't believe how fast they were. They are extremely professional, made sure the right things were moved to the right locations, and secured all of the furniture with lots of tape, blankets and wrap.

There were some furniture items that I didn't know would survive the trip (Ikea items), but they all did! Plus some things that I wasn't sure would fit, and they did. Everyone wore masks. In addition to some cardboard boxes, they also sent many large plastic bins so we didn't t have to make boxes or waste a lot of cardboard when we were done.

We loved the convenience and eco-friendly approach. I hope we never have to move again, but if we do, there's only one call we'd make. [Note we packed much of the delicates ourselves like plates and such to save the movers time. We moved within Manhattan.]

This is from a move from a few years ago. Number of items went missing (including a $200 indoor grill). Number of items were damaged/stained. And to top it all off, the head moving guy (Russian guy) basically told me that my tip (of hundreds of dollars, plus 2 cases of top shelf liquor in unopened bottles left over from my wedding, gray goose, henessy, etc.) wasn't good enough to move me out of my studio apartment to a one bedroom and my furniture wouldn't make it to the next apartment if I didn't pay them more.

Incredibly rude central office. Misguided me for quote and ended up overcharging. Be very careful using them, probably better companies out there. Movers themselves were nice enough and worked hard.

They were really, really good. Super impressed. Greg was cool and gave great advice as I was figuring out how many crates/boxes I'd need and also quickly updated when I had some revisions later on. Good guy. Lizanne was awesome and took care of a last minute insurance requirement and just super nice on the phone. But, the applauds go to guys who did the moving.

I wish I could name all 4 of them. Amazingly efficient and all really nice and polite guys. I thought there was no way we would get the move done in time but they were a well-oiled machine. I've a ton of respect for what they do and how hard they work. A buddy (who is a really demanding guy tbh) had used them and highly recommended them so I was confident they would be good but they really were above and beyond. My first time using movers and wouldn't personally go anywhere else if needed in the future.

This was another move around London and by far easiest one by mile. The crew, Alex, Mihail and Claudio made the whole thing pleasant and effortless. Team was on time, fast, careful and thoughtful. Fragile and valuable items were packed well and handled with care. Can't recommend this crew enough. Thanks guys

We had an excellent experience with Movers Not Shakers from start to finish! These guys were absolute pros--on moving day, they were prompt, courteous, and efficient. We opted to use the packing service for our kitchen items, and everything arrived in perfect condition, saving us a big hassle. We had a number of really heavy and bulky items including a gigantic dresser that weighs as much as a piano, and they handled it without complaint.

When our sofa and dining table wouldn't fit through our front door, they used the upstairs entrance and actually lowered them down to the living room over a balcony from the second floor! We were amazed and grateful. In the past, I've booked budget movers who banged up all my furniture, but Movers Not Shakers delivered everything without so much as a scratch. They were excellent and we will definitely use them for future moves!

We had an excellent experience moving today with MNS. Greg Gissen arranged our move in an incredibly helpful, efficient, and clear manner, and the team who moved us were spectacular. While they did arrive a few hours earlier than we'd expected, we just decided to put our trust in them and go with the flow - which led to things working out even better than our original plan had been for.

The team was able to coordinate with other movers at both our move-out and move-in buildings, meaning we were ultimately able to be completely moved in hours earlier than anticipated. The team was incredibly polite, EXTREMELY efficient, and took great care in packing up our fragile items. I also appreciated that they wore masks the entire time given the pandemic. I would not hesitate to use this company again - thanks MNS!

I'm giving two stars because the move itself was handled well and everything arrived intact and on time. It is the experience surrounding the move is what I am writing this review for. Where do I begin. I picked Movers, Not Shakers because my girlfriend had used them multiple times and had a pretty positive experience. At first things started off good.

The movers showed up a little earlier than was scheduled but that was ok. They were quick and efficient. They wrapped everything up and were on their way in a little over 2 hours (I lived in1br apt with an elevator in the building). Once they got to the destination (suburban house) they unloaded everything into the basement. It was all pretty well organized and stacked.

I was impressed. However when it came time to settle up the foreman pointed out a list he wrote down of objects that were undisclosed on my initial estimate. I'll be honest there were a few extra boxes than I had originally thought and there were some last minute bags of clothes, but nothing egregious, and this was the first I was hearing of it being an issue.

At this point he said that if he called in this list to the company they would charge me 500 dollars extra or more unless I "took care" of his crew. Now I was planning on tipping 200 dollars anyway which I felt was a good tip for 4 guys and a pretty short and easy move. However this was not enough according to him and he got very irate when I said I didn't have anymore cash.

After a bit of tense back and forth, I finally said fine tell your boss about the extra stuff I don't care. I won't be extorted. They drove off and I spoke to Greg about this incident to which he apologized and stated that no extra charges would be added. However come Monday I get a charge on my credit card from Movers, Not Shakers for 500 dollars over the initial agreed amount.

I called Greg to let him know and he said he would call his boss and address it. Later that night I saw on my CC statement that it had indeed been adjusted. I'm glad that it got settled but it caused undue stress. Also of note. I was in a panic because I thought I was missing items it turns out the movers had decided to consolidate items and box them up without telling me so I had to dig through all my items and eventually found them.

I don't know how much of an issue this would be if I were unpacking everything instead of storing most of it in a basement but it still caused a few hours of unneeded stress after an already stressful end to the move. Originally I wasn't going to write this review because Greg apologized and said his guys should have known better, but after reading reviews here (I should have done that from the start) I can see that this behavior is common so the more reviews that let people know the better.

I have used Movers, Not Shakers twice now (first time 3 years ago, second last month) and cannot recommend them more. Finding a moving company in New York was a daunting task, and I'm so happy I ended up with them. This review is largely about my experience last month, though I had a great experience the first time too. I worked with Vanessa to set up the move and she was just wonderful.

I had a lot of questions and kept making changes to the plan and she remained so flexible and friendly. Everything was a little up in the air and stressful with the pandemic and I could not be more thankful for her help in making this go smoothly. Every time we spoke, she was clearly referencing notes from prior communications, and her organization and quick responses made the planning a breeze.

She was also careful with her quote, helping me estimate how much stuff I needed to move and what it would cost. Her quote was exactly what I ended up paying, and I appreciated that it was a fixed rate, and more than reasonable. I ended up having the movers pack up all my belongings for me, as I was out of the city, and they did a great job! Every box was labeled as to where things came from in the apartment and it was easy to find things and unpack.

I was fine with a basic "throw everything in a box" approach, but Vanessa had offered a more "white glove" packing service if I wanted to pay a little extra. I honestly really appreciated that they were flexible in their offerings and pricing as to what mattered to you. I did really appreciate their use of wardrobe boxes too- all my hanging clothes were hung in a box which made unpacking so much easier.

There were a few things I was nervous about breaking, and when I told them, they wrapped them carefully and they arrived perfectly intact. I wasn't there myself, but a friend oversaw the move and said the movers were really friendly and professional! Everything went super smoothly. There was one lamp shade that got broken, and while I totally understand things happen, I reached out to Harry and he's been so helpful!

They really went above and beyond to make their customers happy at every stage. I was fairly stressed about this move, and then it was the easiest thing ever. Everyone should use them. Great people to work with, a great move, a great price, all good things.

I wish I could give you 10 stars on this review. My cousin's out of state move went stellar. I referred her because I knew you'd take super care of her particularly with personal needs requiring added sensitivity. She received the attention and respect she deserves from each person who helped her. Vanessa who arranged the estimate and move and confirmed after hrs the night before, Mark for giving an extra affordable price, Harry for choosing the right crew, McKay, Jay, Iskander and Dennis for being rock stars!

You were the absolute best movers with a sense of humor. To hear my cousin say "good morning and laughing with a revived spirit today was the best.
