I've done multiple military moves and unfortunately this was the worst. I will say the packers were excellent and some of the best and hopefully my experience isn't reflective of the entire company. The second day the driver and loader came. I'm not sure who was who, but one of them was extremely rude and made me uncomfortable in my own home.
He threw the paper work at me and refused to go over any of it. He had barely said two words to me the entire time he was there and slammed the door when he left. A number of the items he was specifically packing/moving were damaged.

The folks in the office (especially Paula) are extremely professional and pleasant to communicate with. Our Packing folks (Kate & Troyia) were very competent and pleasant. The 18 wheeler driver Derryl was trustworthy & professional. However, the Salesman Mr Denny and the President Mr. Fitzhugh were totally non-responsive and unwilling to engage with this unsatisfied customer based on representations made (until an email was written to United Van Line corporate (which never responded either).
If I spend almost $17,000 with you, I expect management to engage when there is an issue. I would strongly recommend (based on several conversations with folks who have hired moving companies) that one consider another Company over United Van Lines (Brooks is a United Van Lines Agency). Please get at least two bids which we were time compressed and unable to arrange. Most companies believe it best to under commit and over perform, Brooks takes the opposite approach.

Awful experience. The driver arrived angry that the street was very narrow for his truck. The assistant when asked to place the rolled up area rug in the dining room whipped out a switch blade kind of knife and as he was taking the plastic off the rug he slice through the rug. Many thing were broken. Very unhappy experience. The men seemed very seedy.

Beware of the salesman. He was happy to tell us that other companies we're lieing to us and make promises that Brooks was not able to meet. On the other hand office staff and the movers who did the work were outstanding. Very pleasant and really seem to like working for the company. All of our interactions with Brooks were very professional.

The packing service left a lot to be desired as the 2 initial individuals had a poor attitude and did not pack items carefully. They also complained consistently throughout the whole process. On a different note the loading/unloading/transport crew, which was different then the packing crew, did an excellent job! Juan Martinez in particular was great throughout the whole process and took great care with our items while providing a high quality service. In summary, the packing experience was poor and would not use again, however definitely recommend Juan to anyone for a move!

Great experience with the Brooks crew (Wendel, Dale, Shawn, and Sean)! The crew was on time, worked diligently, and made sure that our newly built home didn't sustain any damages while moving 13,000+ lbs into it! Troia Brown and Kate Ritas were two amazing women who packed our 2,500 square foot home in 1.5 days. They were on time, professional and took care of our things like it was their own. We were constantly offering our assistance and they continuously refused. With their combined 28 years of moving and packing experience we felt like we were in great hands, and that if we were to assist we would probably just be in their way. We thank them for their friendly service and all around professionalism.

We did a military move with Corey and Jonny, these guys were AWESOME! They showed up on time with great attitudes, ready to work! Super fun to chat with and very considerate of our belongings. They also answered all the questions we had. We got to our new place and have since unloaded all of our boxes. All of our things were carefully wrapped and packed very well, nothing was broken! This review and score is limited to just the people moving my stuff in. I am still missing items and have some items damaged during the move process. I will refrain from commenting on other aspects of the move until after the reconciliation process is over. Jordan and Mikkel did a phenomenal job unloading the shipment and were great at communicating with me throughout the process. Kyle and Cody of Brooks Transfer & Storage were top notch! As a military family we've moved around quite a bit. Most of our household goods deliveries have been sub par, but this one was the absolute best. Kyle and Cody made it to our home on time, they were professional and respectful. They were attentive and careful with our belongings. They went over the paperwork with care and finished the job faster than I imagined they would.
Before leaving, they asked if we wanted help unpacking anything, which is not something that happens often. Should we need moving services again, we would definitely use/request Kyle and Cody again.

My entire experience was great. Dana did an amazing job of explaining the process from start to finish. She was very down to earth, and made sure everything went as smoothly as possible which was nice. Same with anytime I needed to contact the front office with questions or to request boxes, Erika and Katie were amazing as well. The movers who loaded my belongings Ricky and Kyle did a wonderful job as well.
They were very detailed in making sure my stuff was protected, and moved carefully. They did all of it in a timely fashion too. I can't speak for the movers who unloaded into my new home since I was not there, but I was told they were very professional, careful, fast, and great to talk to. My belongings arrived earlier than expected thankfully, and nothing was damaged.
Overall this company and the superstar team that worked with me was perfect. Everyone had a great caring attitude and was a joy to talk to which helped since moving is a very stressful event in itself. My experience with this company made my move 100x easier, and less stressful.

Would not recommend. Had Brooks Transfer move, store, and return our belongings after a home renovation. Very disappointed. A mirrored night stand was broken in the move but they insisted it was broken before hand. It was not. They did not pay for it and basically called me a liar. This was just one issue but there were others. After claiming they would look into the issue, no one ever responded to me again. Under no circumstances would I use this company.

I I just noticed the response Brooks transfer and storage gave to my review on yelp. To say I now think even less of them would be an understatement! How in gods name, when they handled my claim and I showed the pictures of specific damaged items in this review, could they possibly say they can't find any records of my move!? These are some of the worst crooks I have encountered in business in my 60+ years on the planet. I stand by my original review, don't do business with Brooks transfer and storage

The folks at Brooks Transfer are the best. I have moved many times and the process could not have been smoother. My move from Connecticut to the Eastern Shore of Virginia was packed perfectly so I knew the contents and which room to move them in the new house. They picked-up on time and my possessions arrived when they promised and the crew that unloaded and placed all the items was very helpful. Thanks for making a slightly stressful part of my life (moving) into a great experience. I highly recommend these folks.

I used Brooks Transfer & Storage about 1 year ago. I hired United Van lines and their sourced the move out. I was uncertain how long I would be living in V. Beach and left several boxes unpacked. I had some breakage which I advised United Van of and they gave me some compensation. Recently I started opening some of the other boxes and the breakage is in the thousands and there is not way to replace these items. Suggest you avoid this mover at all cost.

The service provided by the Brooks team was very poor and subpar. Poor planning by Brooks management caused them to promise what they could not deliver. A one day delivery was promised even after we questioned this promise. Their lack of planning caused us to either unpack 100+ boxes ourselves over a weekend or live with limited access to our beds, kitchen, living room and public condo areas.
The management team set up their moving team to fail by only sending three movers and then one of things movers leaving for a personal emergency at noon.even with three movers, it was not possible to finish in a day. While the moving team was set up to fail, their attitudes at the end of the day was unacceptable. After telling one moved to stop throwing trash and empty boxes off a stairwell balcony over a public walkway, the movers chose to tell at my wife; sarcasm when asking to sign paperwork; not completing cleanup until I "asked" them to finish getting the trash out ( "Are you asking me or telling me to remove the boxes?" ); refusing to unload boxes in the floor when directed (and in compliance with the contract); and then leaving their trash both in the house (drink cup) and in the community drive (nails & wood chunks from the lift vans).
In the unscheduled second day of work, we asked them to remove the remaining boxes and packing trash as we unpacked the 100+ boxes in our own over the weekend. They did an admirable job moving the trash. The general manager did come out and apologize for the troubles the previous Friday. While this was nice, it did not make up for the frustration and aggravation of their employees or our time doing their work for them. A poor performance. I can't recommend using this company.

Needed to move a friend to another location in Virginia. In mid-May 2017 I called Brooks and was referred to Erika, left a message to call me. No call after 2 days, called again, left another message for Erika to return my call. She did, we discussed the particulars of the move. She was to call me back with open moving dates, no response, called again and left a message for Erika to call me back.
She did and asked that pictures of the house be sent to her email which she was going to text to me. All this took 2 weeks, I have called back 3 times requesting her email. I have not had ANY response. It is now mid-June, needless to say I have contracted with another company for the move. P.S. in the survey below, I have no idea what you mean by an appointment.

Ok, here's the honest run down on Brooks Moving Company /UnitedVan Lines.they are awesome! I recently made a move from Virginia to Atlanta. I scheduled estimates from a few different companies. Mike from United came out to my apt in Virginia and gave me an estimate. Even though his estimate was a few hundred dollars higher than the others, I decided to go with him and here's why.
He gave me an " estimate not to exceed binder". If you're moving, try to go this route. He explained to me all the extra charges I could incur without one. (A shuttle fee, an elevator fee, if they had to hire extra help etc). He told me( and I researched ) signing an estimate without a binder is like signing a blank check. My move could never exceed the price of the binder. it could be less though.
I called the other moving company to see if they would offer a binder. they would not. So, with that and other things I made my decision. Brooks it was! And, I couldn't be happier! From Shanna in the office, to the two guys who loaded up my truck in Virginia ( in a little over an hr) to the one guy who delivered and unloaded my things by himself in Atlanta.it was the smoothest process ever!
They stayed in touch with me every step of the way, I got my furniture early, they were flexible, accommodating and professional. All my furniture was well taken care of. My move even ended up being a couple hundred dollars cheaper than the estimate. If you're looking for an interstate mover and in doubt, please don't look any further, you've found the best. Go with Brooks. You won't be disappointed!

I've moved several times so I've had good and bad experiences with moving companies. Brooks was one of the easiest moving experiences I've had. My move was from Chesapeake VA to Ft. Lauderdale Florida. Dana (Relocation specialist?) was prompt, thorough and friendly. She made helpful suggestions that made the move go smoothly. The movers were scheduled to arrive at 8:00.
They rang the doorbell at 7:59! Again, prompt, thorough and friendly! I wanted to have some furniture dropped off in Atlanta. I couldn't get over how inexpensive it was to include that. I was so surprising I made Dana check the figure twice! Everyone I worked with was very professional. I had a refund that was quickly returned to me. I would definitely recommend Brooks Transfer Storage Co.

Would not use again, nor recommend others to do so. Had been cautioned by fellow military retiree after his bad move, but didn't heed. Furniture was packed in truck at our home, unpacked/repacked to go in wooden crate storage for 3mos, then unpacked/repacked into final truck for delivery, from VA Beach to Idaho. Beautiful oak bookcase ended in company warehouse in Mississippi, 12' aluminum ladder stolen from VA Beach warehouse (documented by delivering van driver), and master walk-in closet clothes were packed in wardrobe boxes, but rolled around their hangers and all stuffed inside.
That on top of all the typical broken glass items, wooden toys, pole lamp, and books suffer in large boxes that even the unpacking crew could barely carry off. P.s. I have all the shelves for the bookcase, but Mississippi warehouse has every excuse for not shipping the case to me.

We booked this move over a month in advance for our move from Virginia to Idaho. The truck was loaded at our home on June 13. We were given a delivery window of June 20-25. As of June 29, our stuff was still sitting in Norfolk. We have been told that "they can't find a driver." Not my problem. Why wasn't the driver locked in when we booked the move?
In addition, the office staff kept messing things up (like losing my phone number and telling the loading crew to go to the wrong place), the packers did a mediocre job (I kept finding things they missed), and the loading crew was borderline incompetent. UPDATE: after complaining via social media, we received a phone call on July 1, saying that our shipment was being loaded for transit and they'd let us know an ETA. Nice to know, but it will still have been at least two weeks later than promised.

We have had the worst experience today with this company. They send us 1 guy to pack our 11,000 lb house in 1 day. When speaking with the supervisor, we were given rude tones and no help what so ever and just awful. I will never recommend this company and if the military moves us again and they send this company to pack us out, we will refuse service. United Vanlines needs to cut their contract with this company and find a better company that does not overbook their packers and cause this much stress on everyone involved!

Having retained the services of United Van Lines in the past for a cross country move (and being quite pleased with the service) it was my belief Brooks, who claims be, affiliated with United was the best company to pursue. My mistake! Three small rooms of furniture, 32 boxes from a ground floor apartment to an apartment with an elevator at a cost of $1300.00 for a distance of 13 miles.
The move in total took 9 and 1/2 hours. A bit excessive don't you think? The packers were on time and did a fairly decent job. The movers had the wrong pick up address, had no tools, were late and badly trained to the point of clueless and to make matters worse had no idea of the final destination address. Calling the main office before the move was futile as they offered little or no help.
After the move, no one had the decency to return calls. The move coordinator was either out of the office or on vacation. No one was able to verify either story. One of the movers made the comment not to make a fuss and when finally speaking to the move coordinator he basically stated other return calls were not going to happen. Even tried to speak with someone from United Van Lines corporate office and was told they were not responsible for local companies which I believe is ironic considering their company logo is on the truck. Overall, my belief of spending more would bring forth better service was a huge mistake on my part.
My advise is find two men in need of employment who own a pick-up truck. You'll get better service for a tenth of the cost and I'm sure they would be grateful for the opportunity to make some money and would provide better service.

Having been in the military and moved numerous times, this was by far the worst move that I have ever experienced. I had bad packers and even worst movers. I also had my sofa crushed in the warehouse. These are just a few of the problems that I encountered. I picked the company based on the testimonials on their website--Big mistake.

We used Brooks transfer for our move from Williamsburg VA to Austin TX. A bunch of our expensive furniture was damaged. We filed some insurance claims as they asked us to do but they wee extremely slow in responding. As of now, we still have not managed to get any money for the damages or have them fix any of our furniture. I would never use this company again.

Brooks Transfer and Storage moved my mother in law from Virginia to South Carolina. Everything arrived in great shape and extremely well packed. Jeff, our mover, was so helpful and willing to do whatever we needed. Our things were being sent to two different locations and had been tagged for that. Once we got some of the things in to the apartment we decided they needed to go to storage and he didn't mind putting them back in the truck.
He got rid of all the empty boxes and packing materials for me too. I really appreciate his hard work and willingness to go the extra mile to make a customer happy. If all the employees are this good I would highly recommend this company for your next move.
