My first experience with Carey was 28 years ago. It was a positive experience. I decided to use them again with an out of state move from SC. I used their website to request an estimate. Two hours later a customer service rep called me to confirm date and time for the estimate. We needed a pack and move for a two level 4BR home. The prices was what I expected. Annette helped us coordinate the dates and time.
Communication by phone and email were excellent. Additional packing supplies for our own use was provided at no extra cost. Carey packed one day, loaded and transit the next. Within 24 hours delivery date was confirmed. Everything was on time with phone communication so we could prepare. Nothing was damaged. After the move I needed a zero balance invoice.
It was provided same day. The packers, loaders, driver Kenny and office staff - went above and beyond taking care of us and our things. I would highly recommend Carey to friends, family and any customer needing excellent movers.

Carey Moving & Storage, Inc has been the worst moving company we have ever hired! During our move, our expensive, quality wood bookcases were badly damaged in transport. Their settlement offer was $925.00, not nearly enough. Carey Moving & Storage does not carry carefully! Worst yet, our treasured art (3 paintings total) is missing and Carey/Allied refuses to compensate us for the lost art despite us having purchased additional liability insurance to protect us in such an event.
I filed a complaint, called the place of business many times and went through all the proper channels to pressure Carey Moving & Storage to try to locate the missing art. Little to nothing has been done to return our paintings to us. Their response to my complaint has been sluggish, cold and detached and their apology insincere and meaningless. Communication with this company is poor to non-existent. Initially, I was informed by Joyce and others, with Carey Moving and Storage, that the driver John Karl mis-delivered our paintings to the wrong address and that the paintings were going to be secured and returned to us.
When we requested monetary compensation in the event our artwork is not returned to us, the employees at Carey Moving and Storage now deny that they previously advised us that our artwork had been located. This company is dishonest and disreputable! Their philosophy of caring for your belongings like their own is laughable. A true litmus test of how a company values its customers can be seen in how they handle customer complaints.
This company rates an "F"! This company has a backlog of complaints. CUSTOMERS BEWARE! If you care at all about your furniture and belongings, do yourself an enormous favor and choose another moving company.do not hire Carey Moving & Storage!

Review from 2022: This year, the delivery team was exceptional. They had to deal with my frustrations with the pouring rain and limited space and never gave me the feeling of their own frustrations. Their manager called me and tried to help assess a solution for them but alas, there was no other way for us to manage the delivery with our limited space in the rain.
I'm afraid I lost my cool a bit in the beginning of the call but was quickly calmed by Jennifer as she totally was understanding of our limitations. As always, it was a pleasure to work with Carey Moving, even when I was super frustrated by the weather. Review from several years ago: Girl Scout Leader here! Cookie delivery last year was a total disaster. This year, the team was courteous, kind, and thoughtful. They even let my elderly neighbor try and give them instructions without being rude. They were great.

Carey Moving and Storage was fantastic from the beginning to the end. Everyone was friendly and helpful. From dealing with Susan with the estimate to Donald the driver, were just a pleasure to work with. The entire team made our move from Charlotte, NC to Kissimmee, FL painless. They practice what they preach, amazing customer service and I know you will be extremely happy with Carey Moving and Storage moving your home anywhere. If I could I would give them a zero, our stuff was in storage 2 months and we were charged for 3 months, and they were 4 days late with delivery. We paid extra for insurance, and had a lot of damage and broken stuff that they said was not their fault. They packed a gallon of opened paint in one box, which broke the items in the wardrobe box and refused to cover the damage.
Their employee was vaping and videoing in my house, during COVID. They don't return your phone calls, they are dishonest in their documentation of your items and they say all your furniture is old and worn out etc when it is not! They say they will give you a check sheet at delivery to make sure they deliver all your boxes and they do not do that, and we had missing items that they say they won't replace. They are affiliated with Allied and we have filed a complaint with them also. Very dishonest, unprofessional and I would not recommend to my worst enemy

The absolute worst experience! I have moved many times- across states. This was a heartbreaking experience. The movers broke antiques, dropped boxes, failed to load the truck properly and seemed clueless. But worse yet I cannot get the company to pay for the damage - or even call me back. Pitiful. Unprofessional. Disgusting. Sad, but it seems I will have to file in court to get any resolution.

I was thoroughly impressed with the entire company. From my first contact with Ronnie, who came to give me a quote, , to the drivers (George & Kelly) and their crew. They were professional, hardworking and genuinely cared about my possessions. From start to finish, they made the whole process a pleasant one. I highly recommend them. They will exceed your expectations!

I've not yet moved so my experience to date is only with the estimating and scheduling processes. I received estimates from several sources and Carey's (Allied's) was by far the most professional, and the least expensive. My interaction with the office staff has also been flawless, so I have no concerns about my upcoming move.

This is one review you want to pay attention and listen. BEWARE OF THIS COMPANY. THEY WILL TEAR YOUR BELONGINGS TO PIECES. I moved furniture from an estate into storage. Sadly, I have found multiple damage to many of the items when removed from storage. Things were not packed properly and appear to have been handled roughly. I even found heirloom quilts used to wrap some of my belonging.
They are torn up. At this point, it is too late to file a claim. I am spending a fortune on repairs. I have moved in the past, never had an experience like this. I have talked to others, including the furniture repairmen I have hired, all agreeing I got hit very hard, and some of the worse damage ever seen from a move. You do not want to hire this moving company.

Pick up was perfect. That's the only good thing about this place. I had lots of broken glass despite the fact I wrote glass, fragile and put fragile stickers all over the boxes. The boxes were crushed. I'm really disappointed by this. Plus the guys were about to leave and they forgot two chairs. I had to stop them when I realized they were missing to get them.
The next day they called and said they forget two more chairs and my box of shoes. They said they'd buy the chairs and mail me my shoes. What a sad job. The guys were really nice, but really slack. Update: DO NOT USE THIS PLACE! They are tricky snakes! Victoria Gaskill the claims adjuster denied our claim for our broke items because WE PACKED OURSELVES and the paper says to list all damaged items.
As the customer you think "list all damaged belongings." Oh noooooo. Victoria and her boss says that means mark if the boxes are damaged. It literally never says that anywhere on a single paper. So although we paid extra for insurance, because we didn't state that the boxes looked like they were kicked around, they will NOT pay for the damages they are responsible for. Kimberly, Tracie and Sylvester never explained about even marking if a box is damaged.
The drivers Sylvester and his team are responsible for. The broken crystal and Fiesta ware that was broken cost a little over $500! Let's not forget the chairs and my entire set of shoes they forgot to deliver. They never even offered to bring them to us! Also my husband is a veteran of the US Navy, and they are very much aware of this because we inquired about a military discount.
They offer it but it's measly. They break our hard earned belongings and then do whatever they can to get out of paying for what was broken. Needless to say, Allied moving doesn't care about veterans, their families and their belongings. This is being reported to the BBB! Do not use this terrible place! I should have heeded the negative reviews about this place. Do not make the same mistake as me.

This was a short move of approximately 30 miles. My husband and I moved everything ourselves save for 5 large items that would not fit into our SUV. Carey Moving & Storage damaged every single one of those five items. Bed frame dented, paint scraped off legs of dresser, glass door shattered on cabinet, mattress set down in mud, legs of couch missing foot pedestals.
All of these items were brand new without a scratch on them prior to this move. Now they are ruined. Carey refunded $312 which they claim is the most they are required to refund at 60 cents per pound. The dresser alone was $800! After multiple calls and emails requesting another look at this, their response was to ignore me. If I had known they were going to be so careless, I absolutely would have taken out more insurance. I've moved before and never had to operate under the assumption that nothing would arrive in the same condition. Do yourself a favor - rent a truck and buy a couple strong friends some dinner and complete the move yourself.

Before making an important decision with using Carey Moving and Storage. READ what my husband and I went through below. Day of move June 7th, 2018 We had everything packed and labeled in great detail prior to move. The movers came with the wrong size truck- this was after we confirmed the size of truck that was to be delivered several times with the customer service.
Four adult men unloaded the truck. While unloading the truck two of the men started screaming and yelling at each other. (This heard inside of our home) From the screaming and yelling proceeded into a FIST FIGHT in our front yard. Seriously, a fist fight. Of course along with foul language ect. I ran into a different room and called the company to speak with the manager.
The manager came to our house to calm the situation down. (Really?) After the fist fight; it was apparent the movers could care less what went where, although as mentioned all of boxes were labeled in great detail. After the movers left, we found boxes in the craziest places, wrong rooms, garage ect. Empty water bottles, trash, cigarette butts both in our front and back yard.
Damage to walls, furniture, doors, flooring - not in just one room - several. A claim was made while the movers were still in our drive way. One of the movers filled out the wrong paperwork. Moving to the communication to the company and the customer service - A nightmare. No follow up calls, no emails and complete dishonesty throughout the whole process. 3 1/2 to 4 weeks later; not all of our damaged issues have been corrected.
The company that Carey Movers uses to correct and or repair damages did an excellent job in repairing what he could- no fault to the gentleman that did finally come to our house. He couldn't repair everything and sent an email to the company to express this. A follow up call regarding this and we were told we didn't get the correct insurance coverage.
What does this mean? The customer service couldn't answer this question. 60 plus days later. Nothing resolved. This is an honest review. I would never use this company again.

DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY! One star is way too generous! We had heirloom antiques damaged before they even got them out of our home. The workers stole the little food we had in the house, stole paper towels to use in bathrooms that had been closed and sanitized, begged for food, left garbage everywhere. And that was the beginning of our nightmare! We received our belongings in two shipments.
This required a change of date for one flight and then another flight to receive the second shipment. This first shipment arrived without a bill of lading. MANY items missing, too many heirlooms damaged beyond repair. NO response. We have begged for a search of our lost items. NO response. We have begged for repairs. NO response. We purchased a no deductible insurance policy.no payment, or any attempt to resolve/mitigate our losses. This has been going on for 3 months. What a nightmare. SOME HOW THIS COMPANY NEEDS TO COMPENSATE THEIR VICTIMS!

Before using this moving company read my review below: They are terrible! Two of the men helping unload boxes from the truck got into a fist fight. Literally in our new homes front yard. Since we are paying by the hour mind you: both my husband and I were furious. I ran inside and called the company and spoke with the owner he arrives at our home speaks to the gentlemen and then apologizes and leaves.
After the unloading of boxes they left. We have quite a few damages within our home from carelessness, boxes put any where - not in the correct areas of the home that we had asked. Broken dishes. They took smoke breaks that we paid for, left empty water bottles thrown out on our front and back lawn. DO NOT EVER USE this company! R. Weir Asheville, NC

Before using Carey, please read this review. The company assured us that they had excellent customer service and would support us throughout the move. To start, the packers took off without completing the packing. Everything was left to the shippers. Their truck leaked oil all over our driveway and the road leaving our house. No follow up from anyone at Carey.
We arrived at our new home and the truck arrived four days after their absolute latest arrival date. When it arrived, we were faced with what those incompetent packers had done: literally thousands in dry cleaning and clothing bills. They followed none of our Instruction. Perfectly dry cleaned shirts, suits, coats, dresses, tuxedos just stuffed into boxes. Women's shoes that were meant to go into shoe boxes stained and bent.
Despite numerous calls and voicemails, not a call back from Carey. My caution would be that if you are willing to spend thousands of extra dollars because they don't care about your move, then hire them. Otherwise. Choose another company and avoid Carey at all costs. Happy to share pictures if you are considering this company.

This group had trouble following through with the correct contact. Even though we were moving furniture FROM my parents to my home and I was the contact they kept calling my parents. They are elderly and it was all very confusing for them. When we did finally get the furniture and other miscellaneous items--several things were broken and scratched up. With the lack of care to the move, I can only imagine how the claim process will go!

The crew from Carey came to my apartment today to partially pack and move me. From the very get go it was obvious to me that I was dealing with four gentlemen who would do their best. They did not disappoint me. They were pleasant, hardworking, careful and professional as they moved my furniture which means so much to me. I wish I could remember all of their names, as they did introduce themselves, but the only name I can remember is Jimmy who was the leader of the crew. Thanks a bunch guys! James Curley

Consumer beware! We have moved alot, including 4 times in last 6 yrs. Never a bad move until this last one! We contracted with Carey Moving and Storage in Greer. Intrastate move to include full packing and insurance. They did 2 detailed in home inventory estimates, last one 10 days before move. They left half the packing undone stating they did not have enough staff to send.
We cancelled our weekend plans and packed ourselves before the truck came on Monday! At our destination they upcharged us 25% more (several thousand dollars) and refused to move our household in until we paid. The driver had no weight ticket and told us our load had not been weighed. Carey Moving produced a piece of paper with a weight and hand written date a week later.
They said they use their own scale, it's old and does not print the date or time. After 5 months we had no repairs to our damaged items. They said the owner thought the repairman they chose charged too much. We asked them to refund what we paid for insurance and we would have the repairs made. No recourse, Intrastate moves are largely unregulated! A word to the wise!

Lied said Dad's things would go straight through with no stops. Then they contracted another company to do it. Three different companies involved and they all pass the buck to the other and you go in circles and can't get any results. They had North American Van lines pickup my stuff and they refused to load a table that I had hired them to move in the First place. Then they lied and said that the friend I had coordinating things told them not to take it. They refused to bring it.

No! No! No! Pick someone, ANYONE else! We hired movers so I didn't have to lift our furniture, but ended up carrying just as much as they did! While I was packing other items our UNWRAPPED wooden furniture was placed directly on the concrete with no barrier. Multiple scratches and corners ground down on our best stuff. I never got our claims form.
Our refrigerator was dropped from the hand truck, we won't know if it works for another few months when our house is ready. The crew was uncertain on how to lift, move, and pack our items. They moved slowly and the office staff was RUDE! I've lived in Asheville for 35 years and should of never hired this hillbilly operation.

Horrible experience. We used Carey to move us from NC to NY. We were impressed with the careful packing of our belongings. But it all went downhill from there. The moving of everything onto the truck took forever. Our stuff arrived a week late. And ALL of our furniture is scratched. Antiques - all of it. Our desk was completely broken. Carey did absolutely nothing about it.
We also realized a family heirloom was missing. We asked them to check warehouse. Check other homes that received deliveries from that same truck. Carey gave us the run around for months and ultimately did nothing. I'm heartbroken and wish we had never used this company. Please never ever use them!

Used Carey last year for a move to New York from Asheville. They destroyed our office desk. Refused to pay for it because part of the desk was particle board. Scratched up an antique radio, antique bed, antique dining table, and antique desk. Refused to pay saying there was no proof it happened during the move. We recently realized that a family heirloom was missing when we had thought it was in our storage unit with the majority of our belongings from the move.
It had no material value, just sentimental value. Gave us the run-around about not having the paperwork to track down the other people who moved at the same time to see if they accidentally got the box. They will tell you a lot about what they can do when they are trying to get your business, but once the check cashes, all they say is how they can't help. Apparently, they don't have anything listed in a computer. It's all on paper.
And even then, they are too lazy to actually help you when something goes missing. I don't care about the antiques or the desk, but the family heirloom. They won't even try to help us track it down. I wish I had read the other review before hiring them. I would have gladly paid another company a little more to care. I wish I could give them zero stars.

These people are the worst. It has taken nearly a year to resolve our issues and not to our satisfaction. Our move was a turn key pack, ship and unload. The crew showed up late and then from there some of the crew left for another moving job not even half way through the packing. Then our belongings show up damaged, moldy because there was a hole in the roof of the trailer that our belongings were stored in.
The damage and destruction I speak of is separate from the black mold. Our belongings were in I guess a trailer for 45 days. The sheer volume of damage was unreal. With that said I have pictures and video of the before and after. Then to deal with their Insurance company SIRVA was an entirely different headache/nightmare. We had $75,000 with $0 deductible.
I would have rather poked my eyes out with needles than to deal with any part of ALLIED and any part of Carey Moving and Storage had I known how horrible these organizations are. Be warned and be aware of the type of people you are dealing with. I also have the appropriate documentation to demonstrate how unprofessional both Allied and Carey Moving are.

We moved from Tennessee to North Carolina, we boxed everything and Carey loaded and unloaded for us, the workers were very professional and made sure to take extra care of our homes. They asked questions before assuming things and made sure they handled everything like it was their own, believe me we have had the other end of the spectrum with movers, so I would definitely recommend Carey.

Their packers were efficient and did the whole house in 1 day. The next day our belongings were loaded into a 53 ft van for the trip to CA, along with 1 car. There was another small load carried on the same van and dropped off first in CA. The unloading was also efficient. One old HS drafting table was missing, for which we received a check promptly. However, to a car in pristine condition, there was much much damage to the front bumper paint and later additional deep gouges were found on the lower edge of the driver's side rocker panel, possibly from scraping on the ramp coming up/down.
These were hidden by the curb when backed off the van and by another car parked next to it on the driveway for 2 weeks. Once they have your payment for the load, the office has nothing to do with you and doesn't even return phone calls. I filed a claim for the car damage on line, but evidently not on the correct form for the Allied claims office to get it. 1 weeks later, I filed another with the help of someone in claims. An appraiser came out a week later and looked at the bumper.
I still have no check from them for the bumper and as expected, they would do nothing about the rocker panel since it wasn't immediately seen and claimed. We have now lived in CA over 5 weeks and I am still waiting for some resolution (check?).
