In 1964, Merle Holmes and George Schmidt purchased a North American Van Lines agency in the San Jose area of California. Not far away in Silicon Valley, the mainframe computer industry-founded in garages, universities, and business offices-was finding its footing. As these computer companies grew larger, they found a need for a reliable, white-glove delivery company to transport their equipment.

They literally had white gloves on. We had VERY ambitious logistical needs. Many shied away knowing failure was inevitable. MWW faced the challenge and delivered. Never have I seen so many dollys.and with BOTH tires fully inflated. Fork trucks with V8's and clipboards slung like Billy the Kid. God bless you MWW.

If you're considering Meridian Worldwide Transportation to coordinate the transport of your domestic belongings, please take a moment to read this review. This has been far and away the worst company I have dealt with in my 42 years and they have recklessly mishandled the most important business transaction I could make. I handed over my valued possessions, nearly everything I own, to Meridian a third of a year ago along with a payment of $5,000.
I was told at the time that it would take about 30 - 45 days for my shipment to arrive in Australia. Unbeknownst to me, there was a problem before I ever left the States. The original quote I received, based on a content description I gave to the agent was "about $3,300." It then jumped to $4,660 based on a revised cubic ft. calculation I made shortly before pickup. Then, once the load was assessed at the warehouse I was told it will cost even more because "the size of the shipment doubled".
What that meant, I'm still not sure but the decision was made, without my knowledge, to withhold the shipment for consolidation, which I did not learn about until late February. Once I left the country, Meridian no longer responded to my enquiries - claiming that my electronic messages were filtered as junk mail. I made international phone calls at my expense and spent hours of time trying to make contact to find out where my property was, without success.
The e-mails I got before I left always started off the same "Sorry for the delay in responding." They seemed increasingly unorganized and it should have been a red flag at the time. As for my property, it may be lost. They refuse to provide proof of it's safety and security. Thus, all the assurances I was given beforehand (including sales tactics to discourage me from using another carrier) were just hot air, and the threat of losing nearly all that I value has become quite real.
It all hinges on the validity of their promise to "find out where it is get it on the next possible vessel", for which I'm told I should be thankful they 'll do without additional cost to me (as though settling in a new country without my belongings for 115 days and counting hasn't been costly enough). Talk about sinking the boot in.
For me, the ordeal continues but I hope you, the reader, will benefit from this anecdote and take the time to think twice about using this company and ask the right questions. With the legal assistance, I hope to eventually recover my property and losses.
