In the auto transport industry, door to door auto transport is pretty straightforward. It means that door to door auto transporters will pick up and deliver your vehicle as close to your location as the truck can physically get. Door to door auto transport trucks are 80 feet long, so they cannot physically fit in certain locations.
Need to ship a car across the country? There are a lot of factors that can determine whether you should ship your vehicle or drive it, especially when you need to move it from one coast to another. When you ship car across the country, it takes time, cost money, and takes a bit of trust. This is why it's important to know how the process works and what each company's role is in your shipment. Make sure to read the article below to know what to expect and how to make your shipment as great as it can be.
There are typically three types of auto shippers on the road: open, enclosed, and flatbed auto transporters. Open auto transport services are the most common, the cheapest, and the easiest to find for most auto shippers. They are best for people shipping vehicles they intend to drive on a regular basis.

I shipped my car from Los Angeles to the Washington DC area. American Auto Shipping doesn't do the transporting; they find a carrier for you. In my case, the carrier's vehicle broke down in Tennessee just before the Juneteenth holiday weekend. Service wasn't available there, I was told, then a long waiting line for service, so I got my car five days later than expected.
During the delay, the dispatcher at American kept me well informed. The communication was excellent. Vehicles break down--things happen, this is life. Because they let me know every day what the updated status was, I came away happy that I had chosen them. The car arrived in good condition. The drivers were polite and treated the car with car loading and unloading. I would use American again.

This is the worst company to work with. i made a mistake placing a order with them. I initially made a request for my car pickup for June22 but they dispatched for June20(right after placing my order) I called the customer care to fix it, but the manager(Krishawna) was very rude and she was not listening to me at all. She said I owe them 299$ for the cancellation, she agreed that it's there mistake for dispatching early and she was very hesitant to issue a refund. please don't work with this company, they will rob you for sure. Never ever saw such a rude customer support(Krishawna) who yells at there customers.

I called American Auto shipping about a week before I went out of town to hand my truck shipped. They where one of the lowest prices and best experience the truck that pick my car up was clean and enclosed like I asked he loaded the car with care and it arrived with care. I will be contacting them again. Andrew called and checked on me after it arrived and I appreciate that. Great service.

My vehicle arrived safely to my destination (cross country) two days in advance! My keys were left securely and there was no damage to my vehicle. The inability to track my vehicle while in transit and the inability to communicate directly to a customer representative regarding the drop off of my vehicle was frustrating. It was inconvenient leaving my vehicle at a different location in order for it to be picked up. Overall it was a smart decision choosing this company and I will utilize their service in the future now that I know what to expect.

Do yourself a huge favor and NEVER use this company to ship your vehicle. From beginning to end, it was nothing but miscommunication and a lack of basic manners and customer service. My vehicle was picked up on the very first day of the 5 day window which is probably the only positive thing I can say. After that it all went downhill. On Thursday 5/26/2022, I received one voice mail stating that my car would be delivered on Friday 5/27/2022.
Unfortunately my phone was lost and I did not get it back until Saturday, 5/28/2022. Standard protocol for your company should be to request an alternate number AND make a call to the contact where the car was picked up. If either of those obvious protocols were taken this entire situation could have been avoided. I called American Auto Shipping on Saturday to find out where my vehicle ended up and the customer service person did not know where my car was, but gave me 3 different phone numbers to try and track it down.
Two of the numbers had a voice mailbox that was full and the third number had a voice mailbox that had not been set up. When I called back to let customer service know this she instructed that I text "Max" at the number where I was unable to leave a message. I texted Max and he was verbally abusive in his response back calling me a liar and stating that I received "millions of calls regarding my vehicle".
This is unequivocally a bold faced lie-- plain and simple. Finally on Tuesday morning (Memorial Day holiday) I contacted Alex at American Auto Shipping. I requested to speak with a supervisor regarding the $140.00 storage fees accrued for the days it was in storage over the holiday weekend. I then called Chip's Transport and was told that the car could not be released until they had the paperwork from American Auto Shipping.
The trucker dropped my vehicle there after business hours without any of the required paperwork. The driver literally drove by the drop off location in route to Chip's Transport to leave the car. I still don't understand why he didn't stop at the drop off location to see if my brother or I were there to receive the car! We both were there and could have received the car.
After waiting approximately 5 hours for a supervisor to return my call, I finally called back again and Rachel, a supervisor answered. I was on the phone with her for over 45 minutes. I admitted that I missed the ONE phone call on Thursday due to my phone being lost. I pleaded with her to waive the $140.00 storage fees because of all the aggravation and miscommunication I had to endure.
Not only did she refuse to waive the charges, she was adamant that this whole debacle was my fault. She was rude, disrespectful and offered no compromise. I was shocked how I was mistreated and the loud tone she was using with a customer that had just spent over $1000.00 to have a vehicle shipped from Denver to MA. She accused me of not taking any responsibility for the missed call even though I did take full responsibility for the missed call.
Whatever happened to "the customer is always right"? Or sometimes unexpected issues arise and just try and make it right for the customer. No, instead Rachel's only mission was to tell me I was wrong because I missed the ONE call that came through on Thursday. As a retired human resources employee I was shocked by the lack of communication and compassion beginning with the driver and going all the way up to the supervisory level.
Sometimes things happen that are out of our control and a little cooperation from American Auto Shipping would have been appreciated. I know the bottom line is that I lost my phone, but nothing was done on your end to try and reach me in some other ALTERNATIVE way.

Do not do business with this scamming company. They knew on Monday April 28 (when they got my money) that my car would be ready to go Wednesday April 30. So they had 2 days notice and 5 days to dispatch. And this was from Columbus Ohio to Amarillo Texas. Down Interstate 44 to Interstate 40. Major highways, not down some backwoods trail. Couldn't get it dispatched for 5 days.
Didn't happen. Why? Because on the DOT load board they were offering such a low rate nobody wanted to transport it. So if you're willing to wait til hell freezes over, go with them.

I decided on American Auto Shipping to transport my car cross country from Florida to California after researching various companies. I spoke with Jasmine who handled my booking. I am an older, single woman moving by myself and was very nervous about the whole situation, but she was very friendly, helpful and professional and answered all my questions.
The driver I was assigned to was Norge with Blue Alligator and he was great, too. He arrived on the day I asked for and right on time to pick up my car and assured me he would be able to drop off my car no problem, even though I wouldn't be at my home for a couple of days later. Everything went so smoothly and my car was actually delivered even earlier than he originally predicted. If I ever have to transport a car again or have friends who need a transport, I will definitely use American Transport again.

Very poor customer service and communication once the deposit was paid. The lack of proper and timely communication was comedic, to say the least. I would try to get information about a shipment date for my vehicle and would repeatedly have to leave voicemail after voicemail (most of which were unreturned in a timely manner). What do I consider a 'timely' manner you ask, especially after I have paid a deposit? 2-3 business days. Did I get a returned phone call within that time frame? No. On a positive note, I now have my vehicle, but will I ever deal with this company again? No. Never. Try your luck somewhere else.

We had two cars needing to be shipped from NC to WA. We tried shipping individually but were having difficulty finding a carrier even after American Auto Shipping chipped in some of their own $'s to try to increase interest. We ended up bundling both, quickly got a carrier. The carrier communicated with us, including being a day later to pick up than originally planned, but ended up arriving two days earlier to WA. It was a smooth process working through American Auto Shipping and the carrier they had assigned.

Rachel, the coordinator was super helpful and very responsive. I never had trouble getting a hold of her!. The shippers, George and Saba express, were great! They were great at communicating with me, so I knew when my car was arriving. They were professional and friendly. I completely recommend this company!

I am 36w pregnant moving from Ohio to Washington due to the military and we needed to ship my husband's RAM 1500. I paid for priority shipping on 1/7/22 and when I was not contacted by 1/12/22, I asked to switch to standard shipping. They did not notify me that this was considered relisting my vehicle. AAS does not answer their phones, so you are at their mercy of when they call you back.
I wanted to cancel our order and I called over 15 times over the weekend and Monday (holiday) and today (Tuesday) with no call back. Our vehicle was dispatched (Tuesday at 6pm EST) but we decided against shipping the truck due to the delivery of the baby and our needs out here. I was trying to reach them regarding cancelling, and they refuse to refund the $200 deposit because they waited to call me back until after they sent the dispatch email. Erin, the "manager", was very difficult to work with and constantly talked over me, yelled, and was flat out rude.
She said there is no one else above her to speak with besides the owners and she was wasting time arguing with me when there were other voicemails from today she had to return. She was beyond rude and only offered to issue me a credit to AAS, which I told her I would never use their company to transport a vehicle and wanted the refund. I was quoting her own terms and conditions to her and she was arguing about what they meant.
She kept telling me I needed to send a voicemail stating all of my information regarding cancellation AND send an email, which is not required on the terms and conditions. I was becoming very upset and she had the audacity to tell me that I need to calm down for the sake of my baby. She hung up on me and I will never ever recommend this company for any type of service.

It is terrible experience! I had my order on mid Dec with $1600 to ship my car from east coast to west coast. They told me that 93% customs will have their cars picked up. However, for more than one month, they continuously told me that they cannot find a carrier to pick up my car. On Jan 26, they told me they have to cancel my order, or I need to pay more for the car to be shipped.
In the contract, they guarantee that as long as they made the order, they will never change the price. I chose to cancel the order and go for another company, for just one business day, they found a carrier to pick up my car. I am just assuming that American Auto Shipping just do not want to fulfill the obligation on the contract and pay more for picking up my car.
What a shame it is! They could just tell customer this situation and should not claim that they will not change the price as long as they have a contract with the customer. Really bad.

I gave them a one star because I could not rate them any lower. Sales broker lied to me over the phone about how they were going to transport my car. I was later told he was fired, but the company was not willing to stand behind the promises he had made. Ultimately they transported my car but the transporter lost my car keys and was unable to get it off his trailer.
He left that problem for me to figure out. We pushed the car off his trailer and he got in his truck and drove off. No apology. No offer to help me get the car out of the street. Nothing! I had to spend 135.00 to have a spare set of keys sent over night to me. I have called the company 5 times leaving messages asking for someone to call me back but have received no response. Not surprised. If you need a company to transport your car find one that cares about their customers. They have shown me they do not.

I received a couple recommendations to use American Auto Shipping, but it's been an absolute nightmare for me. Besides the recommendations, I was also lured in by their reasonable prices and the promise of a free car wash. Below is the timeline of events: Before and around 12/4/2021, I inquired with American Auto Shipping for the service of shipping my family's car across the country.
The latest shipping quote I received on 12/4 was for $1669. On 12/6 I tried to accept the quote, but kept getting an error online. I initiated a live chat on the website and Jasmine called me. She took my details over the phone and took my credit card information over the phone for $319. ($1275 due upon delivery). I informed Jasmine that the car was available starting Monday, 12/6 and must be PICKED UP before Saturday, 12/11 because the family member in possession of the car was moving out of Massachusetts on Sunday, 12/12 (therefore, Sunday was not an available pickup option).
She advised that STANDARD service should be sufficient because it had a 93% chance of being picked up within 1-5 days, with Monday, 12/6 being Day 1. Therefore it had a high chance of being picked up by Friday, and if it wasn't, I could cancel the order for a full refund. After I signed the contract, I sent an email stating that I was anxious to get the car picked up by the end of the week. Aerin gave me a call and reassured me that 93% of the time, my kind of shipment would be picked up within the time period, and if not, I was entitled to a full refund.
On 12/7 I sent another chat to support to indicate my anxiety and stress that the car did not receive any pickup dates yet. Aerin called me again and advised that if they were still unable to secure a shipping company by mid-day on 12/8, I should increase my payment by $200 to increase the chances of getting a pickup within 1-2 days. She reassured me that the vehicle would then have a very good chance of being picked up quickly (93% chance).
On 12/8, American Auto Shipping increased the invoice by $200. I did not sign a new contract nor make any additional payments at this time. On 12/10, I received an email saying my order was assigned to a carrier and the pickup date would be between Sunday 12/12 and Monday 12/13 (!). As I had mentioned multiple times to both Jasmine and Aerin, the vehicle had to be picked up by the end of the week, Saturday 12/11, and would NOT be available afterwards.
I immediately tried to call the driver and left a message asking if it was possible to pick up on Saturday, but he did not reply. I called driver's company as well and was unable to reach anyone. I then called American Auto Shipping three times and was passed through a couple representatives before I finally reached Aerin again, who stated that I was not eligible for a refund and she strongly advised finding someone to release the vehicle, leaving it at a dealership, or leaving it in a public place unattended.
I attempted to find a friend, but it was too late notice and inconvenient, and I tried to call the car dealership, but was unable to reach anyone to ask if it was ok to leave it. Leaving the vehicle unattended in a public parking lot was not an option for me. With the help of a friend, I immediately made other arrangements for the vehicle and cancelled the shipment by calling and emailing my cancellation request and reasons to the email listed in the contract for cancellation, which was support@americanautoshipping.com.
It bounced back as address not found, so I emailed it to Aerin instead at 2:45 pm. We also spoke on the phone and confirmed the cancellation. She wasn't very nice anymore at this point and said that any chargeback would be hard fought by them because they had already fulfilled their service. Absolute BS. On 12/11, I received a voicemail from Jasmine saying that the car would be picked up on Tuesday or Wednesday and if I still wanted to cancel it.
I had to laugh. If I had stuck with them, Tuesday or Wednesday would now mean that my car would be unattended in a parking lot for 3-4 days. LOL. In order to have further documentation in writing, I sent a chat to their support team, which was marked as read by a human. TL;DR: The contract states that my vehicle would be PICKED UP in 1-5 weekdays from the first available pickup date, which was 12/6, at the agreed-upon price, or I would be issued a full refund including the down payment. 5 weekdays was 12/10.
The vehicle was assigned to a carrier on 12/10 but was not able to be PICKED UP until 12/12, which is 7-8 days after first available pickup day. Then they delayed it until 12/13 or 12/14, which is 9-10 days. Therefore, the vehicle was not picked up within 1-5 weekdays as promised, and according to their contract I am due a full refund.

After searching several car transport companies, we found American Auto Shipping. We were very pleased with their services. Everything was done professionally from start to finish. The shipping price was very reasonable and my sons car was delivered without any issues. We will definitely used this company again if needed. Thank you American Transport!

I'm very busy and I don't leave very many reviews. I'm a Deputy Sheriff and this is my second time using American Auto Shipping. Long story short, I'm Very Happy with their service. My car arrived faster than I expected in good shape. Price was lower than other companies. Truck driver was polite. There were no hidden fees. I highly recommend this company.

If I had to do over, I would not have used this company! Stressful experience. Booked transport with a 1-5 window, as we had weeks before needed truck shipped. I was very upfront on the window we needed to actually ship. "No Problem" Told we will contact you 1 - 2 before shipping. Never received a call, called them every couple days see if it was going to actually ship.
They scolded me that I choose the wrong package and it will ship 93% chance. More like 93% that it won't ship. Was in the area purchased the truck in and could have drove home. But rude and dismissive approach we ended up driving home 3 states away to hire another company to go get the truck. Waste of time and money. FYI, I have never written a bad review of anyone. Honesty would have saved everyone a lot of headache. ugh customers are always wrong?

I'm a private party who was looking for the right car to buy on Craigslist and finally found the right one. Only it was 300 miles away in Las Vegas area. American Auto Shipping was recommended to me by the seller who had also used their service to ship the same car from Seattle to Las Vegas. The process couldn't have been any easier. One phone call, a few emails to agree to and a few days later my car was on the way. I was always notified as to the status and when I could expect the car delivered. It came undamaged and for the right price. Thanks American Auto Shipping.

I'd give a 0/5 starts if I could. They say it takes a max of 5 business day to come pick up your vehicle from when you made your order. Regret using this unprofessional company and I could have saved myself 2 to 3 weeks choosing a reliable shipping company. Customer service then start bs you by saying "82% comes wed" now today is Thursday do I have a 92% change today? Wtf give me a break

I was very pleased with the service of American Auto Shipping. They did an excellent job of communicating during the entire process and the price was very competitive. I had never shipped a car before but the driver, Robison, was friendly, professional and reassuring. The car arrived safe and sound - two days earlier than predicted. I would definitely use American Auto Shipping again.

If I could give negative stars I would. Horrible waste of time, they charged a deposit and held it for 5 days talking about "82% success rate that my vehicle will be picked up" sure enough it did not get picked. Wasted five days when I could have shipped it with any other company for waiting that amount of time. they tell you not to shop around and that will cause delays but that's BS what they are doing is trying to make as much money as they can and by that severe greediness they lie and cheat, they all work worth the same network of drivers so I know for a fact they didn't have my car picked up because they wanted to get a driver who would give them a big discount on the commision. at the expense of time and money wasted from the consumer / vehicle owner. Needless to say but they got zero business from me and didn't even bother to call me or update me. on top of that I tried to call them on days 4 and 5 of waiting and got a voicemail after voicemail and no one returned my call.
On finally got a call back and canceled. They said they wouldn't give me my refund on my card that I used to put the deposit (250$) and had to Venmo it. seriously the worst customer service and experience. Go anywhere else but here

American Auto Shipping is a very bad company with the worst service in the world! I paid the ship service fee in front to ship my car with a shipment timeline, however, they never showed up. When I called them, they said "because I felled off shipping time window", suggested it is my fault, they have to pay more to the driver to ship my car. What a heck!
They failed to pick up my car, in reverse, they said I failed the pickup. When I asked to refund my service charge, they said they can not refund to my credit card. They must hurt too many customers, so please do not work with this terrible shipping company. This company is the worst company I worked with. It should be a ZERO star company, not worth even one star.

Beware! These people are thieves. They took my $200 and never picked up my car. They claimed to not be able to gain access to my street because of the size of the truck they were using. I was not home to meet them to drop off the car so I asked for a refund and they refused. They have also refused to reschedule the transport. That, to me, constitutes stealing.
When I called to address the issue, the women in the phone was condescending, disrespectful, and flat out rude and hung up in my face. They took my money and never transported my car. They are thieves. Don't waste your time or money and call someone else for auto transportation.

The driver was terrific, and we exchanged contact information to do business in the future. This review is in no way about the driver but the service I received from American Auto Shipping. The representative, Mike, is highly snarky and condescending. At first, he will act as if he cares about providing quality service, but as soon as you inquire about your service, he becomes insulting.
To provide a better context of my dealing with AA shipping, let me start from the beginning and highlight why you shouldn't work with this company. I first booked with this company in March for a May pick-up. During my booking period, the rep, Mike, was charming. Naively, I took this as Mike being kind, but I soon realized this is his ploy to get you to book with AA. 1) AA is not a shipping company.
They are brokers. Their job is to post your car on a board at the price they locked you in, and drivers on your route can either accept or decline your car. What AA will fail to tell you is that when they book you, they lock you into a price that is so low that no truck driver will want to pick up your car within their estimated window. Here is where the scamming comes in.
They will provide you a window that your car will be picked up, and they will tell you that 90% of the cars are picked up in this window, and that's the first lie. There is no evidence that they meet this rate; in fact, what they will do is intentionally place your car on the board with a low price to convince you to pay them more on the back end.
They will tell you if you pay XYZ amount, a driver will feel more willing to take your car! They are trying to hustle because if you pay the extra, you are provided with another pickup window with another "90%" window that they will most likely no make. If this happens, please ask for a refund once the window is up. When you do, they will tell you that they can't refund your original payment, but they will send it via cash app or Zelle!
Sign #2 of horrible business practices. However, since they do not want to lose the down deposit/return the money to your bank (which will cause a flag against their company), they will magically find a driver to come pick your car up. Beware of this company of their slick practices and their representatives fast-talking. They are running a scam, and you do not need them to ship.
They will try everything they can to get money out of you or delay your pick-up services as a tactic to get you to pay more. Once you call them out, their reps will ultimately turn on you and start talking to you disrespectfully. WHATEVER you do, don't book. Call around for drivers instead, not brokers! You can cut the middle man out and get your car shipped cheaper and without the scamming. Remember, if this company takes advantage of you, call and report it to your bank! They are predators. Just know they will respond and say all of these are lies but remember to review the other negative comments, and you will notice a trend.

Let me start with their glitchy website, which did not allow me to complete the order. Their very nice IT specialist ended up filling out the form for me. The available by date was incorrect, but customer service refused to correct it. From there things went downhill. I have been yelled at, hung up on, called names and told lies. I have filed formal complaints with 3 agencies so far.
They still hold my deposit, but now refuse to talk to me, which is fine because I won't put up with the abusive phone calls. I'm not sure if they treat everyone so poorly or if they're RACISTS, and treated me the way they did because of my accent. Either way, it's unacceptable.

Obligatory I never make reviews statement. I'IThe communication was faulty, I was given conflicting information several times, and they reached out to let me know they found a driver AFTER the driver had picked up my vehicle. My transport was about a month past the expected time but in all fairness they warn up front that this is a possibility.
My biggest issue was the inconsistent, incorrect, and at times rude communication. As a military family, our cars will be moved by another company the next time we move Edit: To respond to the manager. I never once cussed, raised my voice, called anyone out of their name, or any other unnecessary behavior. Your human just like I am and no one deserves to be treated poorly.
Your claims of me being abusive are false and offensive. I did in fact file a complaint with the office manager (I don't remember her name currently) but I made a point to respect everyone. There were no phone calls that you guys had to end with me. If you disagree with a review that's fine but lying about a customer's behavior low and posting passive aggressive responses is low. Also, it was NOT shipped at the price I was initially quoted but that's of no fault of your company and more so the result of my shipping taking so long, which I stated I understood. Regardless, sounds like we agree that I shouldn't do business with each other so this is resolved.

I have not and will not use American Auto Shipping for a simple reason: The company claims to be an "A+ BBB Acredited Business, but in fact they are NOT acredited by the Better Business Bureau, which has somehow assigned an "A+ BBB Rating." There is a single one-star customer review, reporting a very negative experience. Avoid this company!

I'm going to try and write a very long and comprehensive review because shipping a car is a nerve wracking experience and I do not believe there's enough information out there. Out of all the quotes I received, this company quoted me the least expensive. I have a regular 2008 SUV, nothing too fancy, it doesn't require special handling so went with them as they were the cheapest.
I made a specific email to test if the claims that they sell your information holds true, I filled out their form on the website and immediately received a call from Aerin. We spoke about the details of the transport. Never received another spam email or any other emails besides the necessary ones from Aerin. I believe there's another website with the same name that is selling the information, as long as you follow the link on this yelp page I don't believe you'll have a problem with receiving spam calls and emails.
Once they find you a driver, they charge you 20% of the quoted price and put you in contact with the driver. You will pay the remaining balance when they drop of the vehicle in cash/check. The driver wanted to pick up the car 3 days before the scheduled pick up date we came to an agreement to pick it up one day earlier than scheduled. You're allowed to pack your trunk with 100lbs of items, I didn't pack anything too important just clothes, shoes etc.
I strapped my pets cage the back seat as it didn't fit in the trunk and they didn't have a problem with that either. The driver walks around the vehicle with a form marking all dents and scratches on your car and then you sign, you receive a copy of this form. My car was picked up from NYC, I was under the impression that it would've been put on a tow truck from the beginning but the driver came with I guess another worker and drove my vehicle off, understandable as there is a lot of traffic in NYC. Aerin called me the day after pick up to see how things went and told me she will call when I receive the vehicle.
During the transport part I received no further updates. My car was picked up on Sunday. Monday of the following week they had called me to ask if anyone can pick up the vehicle in Los Angeles. I didn't arrive until Wednesday of that week so they arranged to deliver it on Thursday morning to my address between 7-9am. The driver called me the morning of and arrived within the allotted time frame, this time the car was brought on a tow truck and delivered to my door.
My car had an additional 50 miles and a quarter tank less gas than when I gave it to them. The outside of the car was very dusty, according to them they will reimburse you for a car wash, have not had one done so not sure how true that claims hold. I noticed that the spare tire cover for my vehicle was missing, I called Aerin to inform her as I had not noticed when the vehicle was dropped off.
I couldn't get a hold of her and was told she would call me back, so far no phone calls. My car did not have any additional scratches or missing items that I've noticed so far. I called back to see if they could rectify the situation according to them since I had already received the vehicle there's nothing that they can do, I called back the driver and he had a nasty attitude about the situation got defensive from the beginning so I guess I'm left to pay for what they lost.
What otherwise would have been a 5 star experience is now a 2 use at your own judgement. I added photo proof that my car had the wheel cover when they took it a long with time stamps as additional evidence.
