The Other Moving Company was founded in 1998 when owner Brian Hudgins along with some of his friends were helping his parents with their move. Soon after another family friend called and ask for their help, and later another called politely asking if they were "The Other Moving Company."
As word of mouth got around about the careful and courteous movers, more and more people started calling and asking Brian to help with moving and storage solutions. After long thought, Brian and his brother Scott decided to leave their jobs and start a moving and storage company, naming it The Other Moving Company.

From the virtual estimate with Bill to the ongoing support from our moving representative, Bonnie, to the moving day success with Ron and his team, our experience was exceptional in every way. The entire staff is knowledgeable and professional but also the friendliest and funniest group of people. They made what could be a stressful and unpleasant experience so much easier on us. Ron and his team handled every item with care and set everything in place in my mother's new home, and they did it with no time wasted. They were like a well oiled machine! I highly recommend TOMC to anyone who wants a successful move at a reasonable price.

NO! NO! NO! The driver ALLEN was the meanest, rudest driver EVER and we have had over a dozen moves. He complains the entire time, listens to NOTHING you request and takes NO responsibility for the worthless people he hires on either end of the move. If they pack or move an item incorrectly, he just shakes his head and says "not my problem." He did NOT weigh our load, per the government contract, and lied to his bosses and the military saying "there were no scales nearby." There were government certified scales 10 minutes from our house.
When we DEMANDED a reweigh, per the contract, he said he was taking our load to Virginia and good luck finding it. He spent the entire move telling us he was a "christian man." Well, in reality, he is simply a BAD MAN. Do NOT let him in your home or anywhere near your belongings. He did not attach the headboard to our child's bed, it fell forward when he got into bed. He broke one of a pair of antique vases, he put the dining room table legs on in opposite directions. The list goes on! Run AWAY from this company!

The scheduling staff worked with me to provide for my needs. When it became clear that my goal of getting my attic cleared out in one day was not going to be met the owner came out with another truck and dump trailer and worked to make it happen. Cost me a few extra bucks but was well worth it. My only big complaint was that the guys driving the truck could not back the trailer.
Eventually my son took over and quickly backed the trailer and got it where it needed to be. Almost the first hour here was spent on trying to back the trailer. Overall though they did good work and I would recommend them to others.

These guys were fantastic! Showed up right on time, were polite and professional, and didn't waste any time! They made short work of what would have taken us way longer to do ourselves (after begging friends to help). They actually finished up much quicker than anticipated, and adjusted my bill to suit. Well worth the money! The owner was great to talk to when I set it all up. He was so friendly and guided us through the process effortlessly. Great local business I'd definitely support again - and recommend to all!

We were having the hardwood floors in our living room, dining room and office/bedroom refinished, so we needed to hire a mover to move our furniture into our garage for about 1 week. I called The Other Moving Company and spoke to Brian, and described the situation over the phone. He gave me a ballpark estimate of approximately $450 and we arranged for him to come out and give us a written estimate.
When he arrived (without a mask, by the way) he gave us a written estimate for $480.00, which included shrink-wrapping and moving a twin mattress, which was eventually removed, so the price was supposed to be $440.00. We explained (clearly, I believe) the reason for the move; that we were having our floors refinished, and that we were moving the furniture temporarily to the garage, then moving it back out about 1 week later.
We decided to accept Brian's proposal, and hired the company to move the furniture. We were given a date that the items would be moved out to the garage, and a date that they would be placed back in the house (10 days later). I was asked to pay after they finished on the first day, which I did, but then I began to wonder why I had paid for the entire move before it was completed. So, I called the company, just to put my mind at ease that we had paid for the entire job.
I actually thought I was being ridiculous, calling about this. Well, my fears were validated when I called and was told that the $440 we had paid was only for moving our furniture out to the garage! According to Brian, the job took 2 hours and they had a 4 hour minimum, therefore, we should have known that it was actually going to cost $880 for the move, not $440. Now, keep in mind that I had a written estimate, with the TOTAL ESTIMATE line filled in with $480.00 (including the shrink wrapping of the mattress, which we did not have done).
When I spoke to Brian about this, all we did was talk in circles, with me stating repeatedly that we had made it clear to him that we expected the furniture to be taken to the garage, and then brought back in shortly thereafter. I compared it to a move to another home; would you be given two estimates for that, one to load the truck at your old residence, and one to unload at your new one?
I don't know, maybe that's the way this company operates! Brian kept comparing the situation to moving your items to a storage facility, where you might be moving the items back yourself, in a "piecemeal" fashion. However, he was well aware that this job involved the total furnishings of three rooms of our home, including a large china cabinet, dining room table, heavy office desk, etc., and we are in our 60s.
It was clear that we weren't planning to leave our furniture in the garage for an indefinite period of time. This is obviously a deceptive business practice, and it is beyond me how The Other Moving Company has as many positive reviews online as they do (the reason why I chose them in the first place). The only positive points I can mention are the customer service staff on the phone, and the movers themselves were very professional and pleasant.
Maybe they are fine for a regular move, and this is the type of job in which the management perpetrates their deceptive practices. If you are planning to move your furniture temporarily for any reason, DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY,
